Education - Collaboration - InnovationASAIO updated its strategic plan to help sharpen its focus on emerging opportunities and identify the resources and commitments necessary to capitalize on these opportunities. The planning process identified four strategic thrusts:
To broaden our footprint to reach out to emerging technologies likely to play a key role in developing artificial organs, such as tissue engineering, biomaterials and regeneration. Thus, the theme of the 53rd Annual Conference was “Advancing Therapies for Organ Replacement Through Basic & Clinical Research”.
To improve opportunities for collaboration between the scientists/engineers and clinicians that comprise our 800 members. This is being accomplished through a redesign of our web site to provide interactive capabilities for our members to report on their projects and seek help from their colleagues.
To provide opportunities throughout the year to drill down in real depth on key issues and emerging organ technologies by providing innovation conferences that bring together experts in a particular field of interest. Translational research and entrepreneurship will be the common denominator for these conferences.
To improve our ability to attract and retain young innovators to ASAIO so that there is a talented pipeline of investigators active in artificial organs. This is being accomplished through the ASAIOfyi – For Young Innovators. This is a center of excellence for the advancement of young innovators in artificial organs. We believe our future rests in the hands and minds of these young innovators and are committed to support them fully. |
